handcrafted goods designed to last more than one lifetime

It wasn’t that long ago, but there used to be a time when everything people owned was handcrafted. From clothes to tools, furniture to houses, it was all built by dedicated craftspeople to last a lifetime (and beyond). These days, it seems that things are constantly being replaced, upgraded, or forgotten.

As more and more of the things we interact with on a daily basis become commodities to use and discard, it has only enhanced the importance of quality made objects. An heirloom passed down through generations is revered because it has withstood the test of time and has become imbued with the stories of the person who made it as well as the people who have owned and cherished it.

Origin Handcrafted was founded by Marc Liss and his partner Kayla Penelton on two humble ideas. First, people should love the things they own. Second, the things they own should be built to last. This is the driving vision behind Origin Handcrafted Goods. Every item that leaves their shop is made with the care and attention it deserves. Properly maintained, their custom made knives and jewellery will be something of value that you can share with the next generation.

Everyone at Origin stands by what they create. Their selection of culinary and outdoor knives are designed with everyday use in mind. They come with a structural guarantee; if for some reason a well-cared for knife fails to perform as it should, it will be replaced or repaired at no cost.

Origin blades are handcrafted using high carbon steel. This family of steels is known for their edge retention and durability. Unlike stainless steel, these blades will naturally oxidize over time, and age with a beautiful patina. Special care needs to be taken in order to prevent corrosion or rust on the blade.

Their knife handles feature a variety of woods from around the world, but also incorporate metals, like brass, or composite materials such as micarta. But for traditionalists, nothing beats a beautiful wood handle and the endless variety of beautiful forms that can be created.
